Beach Netball, which launched nationally in April 2016, is now coming to the sports
capital, taking place at the Port Melbourne foreshore. Beach Netball is a modified
and simpler version of one of the highest participation sports in the country. Involving
women’s, mixed and kids’ competitions, supported through the Port Melbourne
Netball Club, Beach Netball provides a great workout, is low impact and really easy
to pick up.
Port Melbourne will play host to 100 teams from around Australia, New Zealand and
South East Asia set to take on the annual event from 18-20 November.
Beach Netball is a festival of fun, fitness, health and wellbeing with an electric
atmosphere, set to a soundtrack provided by some of the countries best DJ’s!
Catering for everyone, each event includes a mass NETFIT Netball class, a celebrity
match, food, music and the Official Beach Netball Party.
“I’m pumped to be involved in Beach Netball,” said Australian Diamond and
Melbourne Vixen Premiership player, Liz Watson. “It’s new, it’s fun and it’s
celebrating the best sport, in the greatest sporting city. I’m looking forward to having
my family and friends involved in the competition also, they’ve probably watched me
play enough.”
NETFIT Netball founder and former Melbourne Vixens and NSW Swift player Sarah
Wall said, “Beach Netball is changing the game, and gives all ages, male and female,
the opportunity to get involved. What better place to host the event, then Port
Melbourne foreshore, where all the action happens. I can't wait for an end of season
celebration on the beach.”
All teams will play a round robin tournament including finals on Saturday, with the
Beach Netball 4 Kids round robin event happening on Sunday. This year’s off-court
action will feature the much-anticipated Beach Netball Party for the over 18’s.
